Evidence of how Planned Opening Matches Real Openings

Our planned opening matches the film conventions/codes, genre and audiences because we have studied similar films and they all use the same themes of danger, fear and emptiness. These conventions and codes we have included into our film opening is the enigma code meaning the audience is constantly questioning what is going on and what is going to happen

Moodboard - Fallout

This is our moodboard which shows some of the ideas and themes we want to replicate because these are successful films and if we can replicate some of the things they have done then our film will be very good. We have lots of photos of mushroom clouds because we want to be able to show what happens to cause all of the danger and because of this we want to find a short amount of footage to show the explosion which will then establish the setting and the explosion which has lead to all of this death and danger.

We have a lot of photos of barren wasteland read with long grass we feel that these kind of locations are going to be effective in our film because we want to create the feeling of emptiness and we feel these locations are the best way to replicate this feeling.

We have included the titles from zombielander because we feel these are very good titles and we want to try and replicate these in the best possible way we can. We are also going to use the titles from zombielander to ensure we have them all in the right order to enable us to access the highest marks possible and because of this there will be no errors because we will replicate them and change there names to ours.

We also have some costume ideas in our moodboard because if we have a character we want them to look correct and not just like a normal person going about everyday life and because of this we have found these images of people from similar films to ours. We have looked at there clothing closely to ensure our character looks right.

Font Ideas - Falllout

These fonts will help us decide which one we will use for our titles because we need to choose one which gives the feeling of danger so for example we couldn't use Futura because it looks normal and something you use all the time whilst typing because of these connotations with everyday life this font would not be suitable and we should opt for something that looks more like Impact. The impact font is one which is rarely used during everyday life and because of this it is more suitable for our film because it will less widely recognised and therefore give the impression of danger and the unknown with things associated with destruction like the one in which we hope to create in our film Fallout.

This font is one of ideas which we may use because the chunks which have been taken out of the bottom add to the feeling of danger because to is like the font is falling apart much like the world will after the explosion because of these connotations i feel this font will be a good choice for the title of our film The Fallout.

Final Film - Fallout

This is our final production with changes in the music to give the film a more powerfull and creepy feeling because we chose music with a empty and disasterus sound meaning the footage feels more real and powerfull. This was one of the main areas which we recieved feedback on from our peers and teachers when they watched our first draft.

Pictures - Fallout

These are our photos which we have taken during the cource of the production process i have uploaded themto photobucket in order to show our pictures in  a slideshow format to make it easier to view. These pictiures are from our shooting location and during the editing process as well as our titles reserch. I chose these pictures in order to show everything we have done in our group.

Synopsis Planning - Fallout

Fallout

Fallout is our film we have based it loosely around a nuclear disaster from which no one has survived because of this our film will contain lots of shots about nature and how human life has been destroyed with no hope of survival. The film has a enigma code which constantly wants you to question what is happening and what will happen because it is all filmed from the point of view from the lone survivor meaning we see everything in the way he does to make you feel scared of what will happen. The way in which it has been filmed enables us to use a small amount of actors but still create a powerful meaning.

The Fallout will be filmed in a number of locations like the school, The city centre and Lee's house we are going to use these locations because we feel that we are going to be able to create the right felling of destruction and emptiness, these themes will be expressed through the way in which we film the shot hopefully in such a way that life seems like a thing of the past and all people will be worrying is about there own life and how they are going to survive. To help create this feeling we will be using some 'before; and 'after' shots using the normal city with people walking around doing there daily tasks and after the explosion we will have a desolate location with no apparent life because of the mass of fallout which has been spread worldwide.

We will not need many props however in our location we are hoping to use the old style metal bins covered in rust which we may be able to kick over to show the destruction which the whole world will feel after the nuclear explosion, by using a few amount of props we are able to show how normal life is destroyed and nothing is left if we were to use props then we wouldn't be able to show this feeling of desolation because the shots would feel too 'normal' which would take away the feeling of danger and emptiness.

Fallout - Storyboard

Storyboard

This is our storyboard of all our shots which we will use in our final production of Fallout. Lee filmed and voiced-over the storyboard telling everyone what is going to happen during the film.

Production Diary

Week 1 :
  • 3/11/2014 - In this meeting we got in got into our groups in order to discuss and hand out roles which people will be doing in order to get the ball rolling on the production.
  • 4/11/2014 - In this meeting we began the story board process by researching different films which have the same themes which we intend to incorporate into our film.
  •  6/11/2014 - In this meeting we began to create our mood board and our film pitch, we created our film pitch to show the class our idea and to help us gain ideas for our target audience.
  • 7/11/2014 - In this meting we evaluated our film pitch in order to determine our target audience. From this evaluation we found that our class liked the idea of apocalypse and the nuclear bomb disaster.
Week 2 :

  • 10/11/2014 - In this meeting we came to finish our mood-board this gave us some costume ideas and location ideas which we began to look for on google maps. We did this to find some areas which looked suitable for our film.
  • 11/11/2014 - We found out that we had the use of a remote control car in this meeting because of this we have adjusted out storyboard because after viewing the footage we could capture we felt it would add a good tracking shot because it is very steady.
  • 12/11/2014 - In this meeting we decided to get some recce shots of our locations in order to figure out where we wanted to film and if we are able to film in the locations we want to.
  • 13/11/2014 - In this meeting we began our titles research in order to see what fonts we want to put into our titles to give them the correct feel. We are making a list and then we are going to ask our group which one we feel will fit best in meaning we will get the best results.
  • 14/11/2014 - In this lesson we organised our lap charts which would help us become more organised and ensure we know what we are suppose to be doing to ensure we get all the paperwork done and finished before we go out to film. I said i would do the Synopsis plan of our film and thew risk assessments.
Week 3  :
  • 17/11/2014 -In this meeting we voiced over the story board to upload onto my blog and to everyone else blog.
  • 18/11/2014 - For this meeting we decided on our shooting locations we will mainly be filming in Ongar in Essex. We have access to a large barn in which we can film.
  • 20/11/2014 - We sent Lee to take some recce shots of the location because t is close to his house and will give us ideas of what shots we can film. We decided that we would need a clear dry day in order to give our film the correct feel.
  • 21/11/2014 - This meeting involved us checking through our work which we could then make changes if they are required to improve our own work.
Week 4 :
  • 24/11/2014 - In this session I started to complete the risk assessment so we could begin filming our production. Without the risk assessment we cannot film because it could be unsafe.
  • 25/11/2014 - We started to complete the shooting schedule in this meeting knowing exactly what shots we need to film on our shooting days.
  • 26/11/2014 - I began to finish the risk assessment for our production so we can upload it onto our blogs, after this we can film our production.
  • 27/11/2014 - Our shooting schedule was finished in this session so we could begin to shoot, we are going to begin our shooting this weekend and are hoping to edit next week to get it finally finished.
  • 28/11/2014 - We began shooting during this meeting to bring all of our footage together and then begin editing on premiar to bring our whole film together allowing us to meet our deadline. we have been shooting in the location pictured below because it looks like the aftermath of a nuclear explosion with no life present.
Our Filming Location

Week 5 :
1/12/2014 - In this meeting we started to finish our filming meaning we can begin to edit in order to speed up our production ensuring we meet our deadline and edit our film in the most professional way possible.
2//12/2014 - In this meeting we started to finish our editing using the software to use a grayscale effect on the footage to give an impression of a derelict wasteland with no life because black is a colour which is associated with death meaning the audience will know what has happened even though they may not have seen it.
3/12/2014 - This meeting consisted of adding titles to our film in the correct manner so that all of the titles are correct and none are missing therefore allowing us to reach the highest marks we possibly can. During this we watched the zombieander credits to base ours on the same idea following the same pattern of credits.
4/12/2014 - We finished our editing and titles during this meeting because of this we exported our film to youtube in order to put it on to our blog for the examiner to watch and then mark.
5/12/2014 - We received class feedback in this meeting showing the whole class our film awaiting there comments which can help us improve our own film.

Representation

Representation is the way in which people events and ideas are presented to the audience via the use of stereotypes, archetypes and countertypes. These representations are created by the producers (anyone who makes a media text) of media text. The ideas which producers present to us are controlled by the Gatekeepers. A Gatekeeper is someone who has the power to make a decision about something the audience is allowed to see, hear or read. Moguls are the next link in the chain in media they are the media owners. Using newspapers as an example Rupert Murdoch owns the newspaper so he would be the Mogul he will have the final say in what is distributed to the audience.

  • Stereotypes - Media institutions use stereotypes because the audience will instantly understand them. You can think of stereotypes as a visual shortcut. Stereotypes are uses so often that we assume they are normal or true.
  • Archetypes - This is the ultimate stereotype. For example the white  stiletto wearing, big busted, brainless blond bimbo.
  • Countertypes - A countertype is a representation which challenges tradition stereotypical societies, people or places.

Genre Task - Opening Sequence Analysis

DISTINCT

Titles

In this lesson we started to learn about the importance of film titles because in our final production we will need to get the titles spot on.

First of all we went on the website www.artofthetitle.com to help find a opening series of titles which we could then learn about. From this website i chose the titles from James Bond Skyfall. I chose these titles because they are extremely well known and because it was such a high end blockbuster they wouldn't have made any mistakes.

I screen shotted every title that was shown and then timed how long they appeared for, i did this to learn about the way in which certain actors want there name up for a certain period of time. The most common time was 3 seconds which then lowered to 2 seconds with the production team and makeup artists.

From this simple action I learnt about the importance of titles and how important it is that they are all correct with no mistakes, from the Skyfall titles I found a lot of inspiration for our own titles hopefully being able to re create this professional look in our own production.

Final task - Inspiration Ideas

In this lesson our teacher showed us some previous tasks which people have created to be there final piece. From this we learnt that there are many genres and themes which are used a lot because they are what people have seen over and over again and because of this the examiners have become tired of these genres and therefore could mark people down because they will be viewing the same things over and over again meaning they become bored. Because of this we will decide to make a less common genre which will enable us to meet the higher marks which are available and hopefuly entertain the examiner.

We also assessed some of the tasks which we were shown in order of how much we enjoyed watching them we also tried to grade them but we didn't understand muc about the grading criteria.

From the pieces we were shown there were a couple which really engaged is and looked really good, all of the titles clearly took a long time to get everything on the right places however from viewing these we saw what we need to achieve in order to get the best marks.

We were also given our groups we will be in for the task for this one I am with Lee, Robbie and Will. I think this group can be very strong as we have creative members as well as people who are good at editing on premaire.

The edge opening sequence was one which I liked because the editing on the titles are very good as they have obviously paid close attention to all of them ensuring they are all spot on. I also liked the music which added to the action. The use of older people chasing the one on roller skates helped the sequence to look more realistic. I didn't like the way he suddenly pulled out a bomb because there was no explanation as to why he had done this personally if the reason he had a bomb was explained I think it would be even better.

This is the opening sequence of Roses Are Red. I liked the titles because they have clearly spent a long time working on them to ensure that every title required was in the film.  The editing between shots was also good because they were clean cuts and not lots of black between the shots however the music did stutter where the editing may have been rushed because it does not sound right. I didn't like how the whole thing was filmed in one single location if they could have incorporated more locations into the sequence I feel it would be improved.

Prelim Task - Somme Survivor

This is my first film - Somme Survivor

1) Who did you work with and how did you manage the task between you?

To film this task we were put into groups and my group was Me, Ben and Will. We were then given a genre and the genre we received documentary we were quite happy with this genre because we had a lot of ideas, which we could film about. We discussed what to film but after a long discussion we decided to film about the War. We chose this because of a recent television series Our World War this series gave us a lot of inspiration because they filmed in much the same way as we wanted to.

2) How did you plan your sequence? What processes did you use? What theories did you try to take in to account?

To plan this sequence we covered a long process of storyboarding in order to get all shots in the correct places enabling the film to be filmed quickly and correctly meaning we did not have to re film many shots. We used post it notes to write out the story board saving us having to redo page after page of storyboard instead we could just move the post its around. We tried to keep an enigma code

3) What technology did you use to complete the task, and how did you use it?

4) What factors did you have to take into account when planning, shooting and editing?

5) How successful was your sequence? Please identify what worked well, and with hindsight, what would you improve/do differently? What did others say about your production?

6) What have you learnt from completing this task? Looking ahead, how will this learning be significant when completing the rest of your foundation coursework, do you think?
